In case you have been living under a rock, some sand or where just too stoned to have noticed them, a new group has popped up some while ago, conquering the radio and terrorizing the television.
This group was formed long times ago when Aaron ‘love peace’ Audio (the man behind the electronic base) and Sam ‘Toot toot’ Richie (the character handling the horns of a bull) where brought to each other by the universe to share the same house. When Sam was heavenly involved with Balkan, and on the ground trumpet playing for a whole crew of London based bands, Aaron had the knowledge and the skills of the killer sounds, the wobbly dubs, the kicks in your face and the power to insert love in electronic vibes.

Together they made some cups of English tea and joined forces, which resulted in a unique combination of never done before music. A whole zoo of animals, where recruited for the live performances they had planned to mash up the many festivals, clubs and even the local pubs they invited themselves too. Sometimes the whole crew of 80 bandmembers (most of them playing horns, or where getting drunk on the gig fee in a corner) played for just a drunk farmer and a lonely cow, but wherever they were attending it was smelling like total chaos, fun, pumping music that got large crowds dancing like baboons in no time.

Some of the loveable members of the band where actively involved with hyping up the stage, making every gig more into a happening than your regular music gig. Lady Oo was one of these characters that reincarnated from a dancing banana to a full time member of the band, performing, dancing, playing, singing and inventing lyrics for the Sam and the Womp experience. The adding of her vocals made something happen in the shape of catchiness. Aaron, Sam and lady Oo had hit the winning track that got the weirdest pastry, and stayed in the head, if you like it or not! If this whole story doesn’t ring your bell, one track by this band went to number one last year in the UK. The catchy lyrics are qualified sing along material.

‘I’m the gut with the daze and bum, going around like a bong bong bong!’

A video had been made, and the trio (and if possible, the 80 other band members) where traveling the world performing their psychedelic womp fests wherever they were going.
And actually they are still globe trothing and growing stronger and stronger! We from Yeah I Know It Sucks even have inside information, that they are working on an album that will certainly proof that this isn’t the last thing you will hear from them!  Songs about homeless gypsy’s and how to conquer the world with a load of cheese are possibly printed on a shiny record..

Anyway just to be sure that you know, that we know that their hit ‘Bom Bom’ is an extremely well performed joke, aka a nice fuck you against the music industry. I like to see this track as the ‘infinity’ classic of Guru Josh and hope it will be reincarnated many times in the years to come.
These guys are real musicians, real people even, and a real monkey joined together by Mother Nature and the powers of the universe. Broke as fuck, the hit record of Bom Bom was a self-created blessing and was certainly good news for the home cats who were in need for food.
(And the band members self where blessed that they could finally afford a real drink)

Anyway what I wanted to write is that this is a live band, rocking out the best when they are on fire, and spitting energy with baselines in your faces through a massive wall of sound.
The combination of roots music, electronic blasts and pure psychedelic pop is sure something that will guarantee a pleasurable night out.  Horn sections, drunks, drums, festive baselines that will make your belly rumble! And above all there is a source of insanity, which is appealing for any office clerk eating the backside of his ballpoint all day. Even though you may perhaps have heard the single, I will try to review anyway just for the sake of it. It was hard to get it, so I recommend not using the piratebay and other dodgy website’s like I did, but to get the real thing from their own website.  Support the cats, baby!

So ‘Bom Bom’ by Sam and the Womp comes as a single plus remixes in a digital download format.
I have no idea if there are any physical releases out there, but if so, lucky you.
The first track is the official hit single.   A groovy party pleaser that fits on the radio, as well as on every party compilation with its unique style of electronic and lively played horn sections. The lyrics are written by Edgar Allan Poe and perfectly timed with an energetic outburst by Lady Oo and backing vocals by (I believe ) the Womp. This funky little piece is perfect dancing material, where humans, animals, aliens, and others will shake their asses in a rhythmic fashion. Everybody can be cool and groovy is the theme of the song, and if you don’t like it be careful because they have a bomb (x3) and a snapper to hit your ass with! Mentalisme has hit the hit parade!

After the hit record we hear 2 remixes  by someone called ‘Wookie’. Wookie isn’t that someone who belongs in a George Lucas space classic? Perhaps after the famous director selling the merchandise to the Disney empire, Wookie decided to escape to London and finalize a name in the music business. This remix got absolutely a very British sound to it and reminds me of the early times of underground pirate radio stations. A classic dance vibe, and deep baselines that will certainly get the lunatic asylum raving like children high on popsicles!

How are you doing? Listening to different versions of one track makes me feel like I’m in some kind of funfair ride. Tumbling around, upside down, fast forward, backwards and here we go again!
The Bom Bom (Pirupa Remix) is I believe more a club version from the original tune. We hear the trumpets getting squeezed in a old rusty filter and a repetitive beat for wasted spaced out clubbers to enjoy their movements on.  Half way the beloved party people will look around with their red eyes as the beat was given a chair to take a rest on, and leaving only the sounds of the horns in the air. Before the club crowds could check the pills they have been swallowing, the beat returns and sets the masses dancing in a hypnotic movement.

The fifth and last track on this single is the same track as the original anthem, although it is missing the vocals and also the lyrics. This gives the fans, the drunks and the other freaks the change for a nice karaoke session. Nothing beats the snapper than doing it your own way! Smudge yourself in a cocktail of banana slurry and dance and sing as loud as you can, whatever the f*ck comes up in your mind! If this isn’t your thing than you could get this single to torture your neighbors with it, this tune is going to stay so better get used to it! Let the womp take over your sound system and make sure you’ll invite yourself when they are playing live in a venue near you! (you won’t be disappointed, as you will be Womped!)
