Another Alex that is not me, though most of them are in some way when I’m feeling either solipsistic or universalized, is Alex . His work Desktop is probably what you’d call lowercase… that’s, ah, a genre of music I learned about several years ago on Wikipedia that I’ve never really heard anyone discuss or release music under. I think most people just prefer the term minimal ambient.
‘Desktop’ begins with what sounds like a shuffling of sticks and a bit of a hiss, possibly from tape. More shuffling continues, and then I realize that what I’m probably listening to is someone typing on a computer keyboard, loudly, as well as shifting around in a computer chair or fiddling around with stuff nearby. The stereo panning makes it feel like you’re listening to more than one person typing. It goes on like this for 10 minutes and 13 seconds, fading away at the very end.
