An experimental electronic record label hailing from Denmark is one to keep an eye on, especially if its name is ‘phloq’. They just released a wonderful compilation that should be available through the good record-shops in the cities of Aarhus and Copenhagen and also through mail order through their website shop or discogs. It is phloq’s second compilation and features a world of relaxing music with a strong touch of sound collectivism.
Compilation twelve starts with an artist called ‘Dot’ that delivers a track that crackles like snow that is softly being crushed under the weight of a moon-boot. It feeds the listener a slow but certain vast amount of sonic warmth.
More warm tones are being introduced by ‘isaktelefon’, it’s a slow piece of minimal ambience and for some strange reason makes me dream of snowy landscapes in the middle of nowhere, with strange thoughts of reflections of civilization that reach the ears through strange radio frequencies. The melodrama gets more beautiful towards the lonely end.
Before our minds go berserk from our loneliness, a certain ‘Filip Ja’ comes to the rescue. Filip Ja brings some very spacious simple synth tones towards our ears and sophisticatedly manipulates this into some kind of minimal communication. It’s the art of leaving things out and focusing on one thing at the time, that is captured here in all its glory.
‘Maulex’ is the next artist that appears on this collection of sound landscapes. Maulex creates a mysterious atmosphere that fits well within a winterish landscape. It’s like listening to microscopic snowflakes, a sound that is fragile and slightly muffled with small hints of beauty.
The work by Phaedrus is called ‘Silence Is Half The Piece ‘and feels as if it takes over where the previous track had ended. A soft warm snowed under landscape meets the ears in the form of minimal ambient with little hints of crisping electronica.
‘Malcolm Mahiti’ takes the listener deeper as the sound seems to bring us under the ice world of a frozen lake. Down in this depth we hear warm drones, the soft cracks of the ice above us and electric communications that seems to fail. Slowly this world is drowning us in its sonic depth, and it’s a wonderful way to end.
But we aren’t dead yet, as the sounds of KRiSHVE are buzzing in and around the ears. The high sounds are like electrified crickets mixed with the sound of unplugged audio plugs.
There are more high sounds available, but also more lower ones in the experimental electronic soundscape made by Mads Engell It’s as if we are listening to an raw source of sound explorations ready to be fed to the machines of an act like matmos. All slowly captured in a high resolution of sound, great to relax and have strange creative dreams on.
Alex Mørch mixes the perfect combination of a mechanical rhythm and a more classical atmosphere, by supplying an passionate composition of sad strings.
The honor of ending this one hour compilation goes to an artist called Jannick Schou. An artist who delivers an warm open ending that sounds melancholic and pretty, with a touch of synthetic tones of sadness. It’s as if the record is crying in its beauty because it simply doesn’t want to leave the listeners ears.
