Fatal Jamz - Young Bitches In Love

The album artwork for Young Bitches In Love by Fatal Jamz makes me feel like Jaws… the shark, not the Bond villain… or maybe both. I’m a great white shark with a platinum grill and I’m swimming in the pool and then I see these painted toes and I’m like… yum, gonna bite-chya! Would also like to point out that this water is quite a lovely shade of turquoise! Almost lagoon-like.

If you don’t physically get chills of awesomeness while listening to your favourite music, then, chances are, you’re not listening to music that is awesome enough. Try listening to this single from Fatal Jamz that I reviewed awhile ago… I’ll wait here for a moment…

… you did it? Awesome, right!? Now that you’re on the same page, let me try and predict how you’re thinking and feeling… you’re wanting more? I knew it! Well, if I’m correct, then you’re in luck!

This three-track release from Fatal Jamz does a lot to satisfy the craving we’re now sharing, though I do really wish there were a whole album in existence of music of this kind from the artist. Hopefully, Fatal Jamz will one day deliver, and if so I hope we can share it together, too.

The first track, ‘Rookie’, instantly initiates a mood of anthemic 80s rock. It’s like everybody’s working for the weekend, but at least you’ve got your FM radio. Maybe you’ll get back to your teenage bedroom and spend the night looking for angels in the centerfold. I love the cavernous gated tom toms, the lush synth strings, bell leads, all over a solid, pumping rock background. The vocals/lyrics are ace. The harmonies are beautiful. This is a modern rock classic that really takes you to another place and another time… the skill of the performers recall an entire era that we’d all come to know as long passed, in essence a style and vibe that it seemed no one else would ever capture again.

‘Beauty Mark’ sounds close to a Gary Glitter beat with the overhead claps and all, and then gets really melodic and cool. I love this one, perfect for a long drive going nowhere under a hot summer sun.

Last is ‘White Porsche Cabriolet’, which comes in with a vocoder, then some really nice 80s synth/rock feels! I’m reminded of The Cars, which I’m sure is just as much a matter of the title and subject as it is the sound of this song. It’s so good. I hear that low synth bassline up/down arp, it’s perfect… oh, and there’s a saxophone lead in there too. What more need be asked for? Of course, as great as the music is, the vocals are what really seem to drive this track to the finish. By the way, check out the video for the acoustic version too, with only 10 views(!) so far — that really turns my brain upside down:

Taken alongside the wonderful single for ‘One Of The Girls’, this artist has really brought something together to feel excited about. I’m not even usually a huge rock music fan, yet here I am gushing about this. I recently put some of this music on at a small party at which some friends were getting matching tattoos… conversation had been on cool androgynous artists, and it integrated seamlessly into the oeuvre of strange music we’d all been listening to all evening. Awareness of this artist really needs to be spread! Here’s a link to this, before I forget:

Me either! It started with his ‘One Of The Girls’ single and then ‘White Porsche Cabriolet’, they’re both very stuck in my head. 🙂
