Since my guest post over at THE WEIRDEST BAND IN THE WORLD covering an golden oldie videoclip by Harry Merry, I was on the receiving end of critics who where letting me know that Harry Merry was no longer part of the ‘underground’. If you are reading this yourself, Harry: Sorry… And please don’t shoot the messenger.

The stacks of emails came flying in telling me that Harry Merry was by now ‘big’ in the Netherlands. Not as in ‘Big’ the body way, but as in ‘he is on national television, broadcasted to the homes and brains of the people.’

With my hands in shame covering my face in fears for repercussions of the board of ‘underground’ critics, I wanted to steal the article, putting it in a big hole deep under the ground to make at least the post in itself ‘underground’ worthy.

What? Harry Merry has been selling out?! Really?! Kicked out and stripped off from Underground cult status?! It was like that cruise ship approaching the iceberg, Judah betraying Jesus; it was simply the end of the world!

….
But is it really? Just think about it, search the Netherlands on a world map and you will soon come to the conclusion that the country is extremely tiny. It’s a place that if you are farting a little bit different than the rest, the next morning you will be in the headline of all the major newspapers.

The Dutch media swims around like sharks in the hope to find a new folk hero (or villain) like the legendary rock n roll junkie ‘Herman Brood‘.
He lived a life of rock n roll, art and drugs. To sustain his vices he appeared almost everywhere on television. It was good entertainment to see Herman completely drugged up appearing in cooking shows, reunion shows, talk shows and other television programs.
Did he sell out? Don’t think so, he just enjoyed the attention and probably needed the quick cash for his daily doses of doctor pepper.

I think in the case of Harry Merry, it’s Harry Merry who takes the part of being the doctor pepper for the regular music lover. I mean when you see and hear Harry Merry it is like smoking crack. You know you might lose your brain and teeth, but you will do everything to smoke it anyway. Once you hear and see a bit of Harry Merry, you just need more and more and more.

A smart move by programmers to broadcast Harry Merry on the television, as viewers will be glued with ears and eyes to the screen, waiting for their most needed doses of Harry Merry.
And who can blame them, or Harry Merry for giving what the people need? Trust me, we all need a bit of Harry Merry.. And thanks to Youtube and the global support of his loyal and ever growing fan-base, he is even breaking through on a global scale..

One of those special touching moments was when Harry Merry came to perform an emotional version of his big hit ‘Stevie Storm’ at the now legendary The Sina Khani Show!
