The New Fabian Society – Exhibition Of Love

The album art for The New Fabian Society's Exhibition Of Love EP is very simple and stark. Like love can be, when bared openly. This makes me love it even more.

It wasn’t long ago that I came on the scene to talk about The New Fabian Society. The way I remember it, you and I walked through the doors of a cafe, surrounded by doves and bright back-lighting, flipping our golden, wavy locks… we strode up to the counter and ordered coffee like two…

… oh…

… what’s a word for two really cool people with a devil-may-care attitude, who also happen to be gorgeous? I don’t know. But, that’s how it was when I think back to that strange day. I also vaguely remember that the coffee was a bit off.

Well, if you wouldn’t mind, I’m in need of a stimulating beverage this evening and wondered if you would join me for a rendez-vouz in that very same cafe? I heard there will be an Exhibition Of Love, by The New Fabian Society! You know how I love that kind of thing…

… oh, yeah, we’ll have to walk. I hope you’re ok with that, it’s just like, a paragraph away…

… ah, here were are! Let’s grab a table next to those two.

Something familiar about this...

Something familiar about this…

The exhibition begins with ‘Lost In Berlin’. There’s an ominous pulse like a heavy block being struck and feedback slowly creeps in. It makes me feel like at any moment someone’s going to scream. There are these mangled bird squawk sounds… it all falls away, replaced brilliantly with what feels like some post-punk rock, the vocalist is singing to us from inside the dark reverberating chambers of a bat cave. The harmonies are perfect. I’m really loving this!

Right away, I’m looking forward to hearing ‘Necropolis’. It feels a lot brighter, with it’s guitar melodies. The drums come in like shots fired, the vocals wrap us in a cloak of dense reverb. I feel like I’m being ushered through a German expressionist film, every move in this place is a grand, sweeping gesture. As the distortion picks up it’s more like a sea of white noise as the picture fades to oblivion, but still the voice screams out to us, pulling us into it all blindly.

‘Devious Minds’ is the last one here, and it rocks! The distortion is like an endless stream of heavy frequencies, the drums are uptempo… it ends with that ominous block and birds…

Funny, I was so thirsty when I got here, but The New Fabian Society’s Exhibition Of Love seemed to be all I really needed. You should definitely fall in love with these sounds, which I am absolutely positive can be found at the link below. I’m rarely wrong about these things… it’s like I have a sixth sense about web urls.
