In Japan they have had a little accident with a tsunami and a nuclear power plant, after that the things simply haven’t been the same. From making it difficult for foreign visitors the country has switched to an easy going free visa on arrival, creating a stream of tourists ready to be exposed to free nuclear radiation in the air, food, drinks and hosts. The easier access of the country and the free radiation are only two of the positive effects of the drastic worst ones. They say you have to view everything on a bright side and so we ignore the terrible waste still streaming into the ocean and in the air, focusing on positive mutations not only turning lizards into Godzillas that pop up along the coast line, but also artists seem to be heavily infected.
Kamura Obscura is a great example of art and artists being heavily mutated by the toxic events, their music and performance, style and appearance are completely full of toxicity. But it sounds better than without; they have built up a fine resistance against the destructive poisoned parts & let the nuclear waste travel out through voice and musical creations. Everything they have touched and created seems to be highly empowered by the Fukushima Power plant effects, creating toxic synthesizer sounds with their poisonous finger tips, sing with their mutated super voices their things and create sounds and songs that are nonsensical when you, yourself, aren’t fully showered (in and out) in toxic waste particles.
In a way their free downloadable work ‘Kamura Obscura Speleology’ can be seen as code for all who haven’t been exposed and toxified, but also as an invitation to come to Japan and then possibly re-listen this album with a pair of mutated new ears that will suddenly make sense of it all.
