Paul The Trombonist: Journey to the World

Paul The Trombonist has just released his debut album.

Prior to this he has been a very busy man it seems, in big demand for his trombone playing skills. A quick search reveals that he has performed privately for Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Sean Penn, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zac Efron, Bill Maher and Ryan Seacrest. He attended Berklee College of Music and there is no doubt of his trombone playing skills which have seen him serve as trombonist in the queen of soul, Arethra Franklin’s band and performed together with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Frankie Valli and also in Noel Gallagher of Oasis’s band.

and this man can doodle tongue!

So fast forward to to his debut release.

I had high expectations after my investigations and I was seriously hoping for some awesome jazz music to make my day super chill. The production is excellent. Nothing has been spared in creating this CD. Press play and suddenly its a journey to a world that is is technically perfect but something doesn’t quite fit. Its got this gorgeous fat trombone playing all throughout, but the backing music just seems like a super produced electronic karaoke for Trombone to me.

The trombone melodies are lovely and warm and I just wanted the drum machine backing to go away. After listening on my home sound system about 20 times, I had hoped the backing would grow on me, but it didn’t. If it was a bit more silly then it may have worked for me.

Fast forward….. have a shower and keep it playing. This totally worked for me. The trombone cut right through and I was a happy clean listener.

Your mum might like it for her birthday or maybe you could convert your old home movies of kittens to a digital format and play it along to that.
