The highly anticipated album by Death With Benefits has been heavily praised in the hallways of our busy headquarter. I decided to follow up these rumors and gave the release a go into my own private office space. As soon as I played the first track I knew this one shouldn’t be listened as if it was a bit of fluff; it deserved a special environment. So I closed the blinds, locked the door, placed some pillows on the floor, switched off the lights and lighted some candles & threw myself on the floor for a soft landing. The music, as subtle as it was, had great melody of melancholy in its output, smartly hidden and beautifully camouflaged, but yet very clear for anyone who takes the time to listen while all external distractions have been blocked out.

If the beast breaks free in me tonight’ was served under similar circumstances, easily making the listening space into a relaxing place in which warm shade came out of the speakers, indulging my eyelids to go down and my mind and body to go into a extreme chill out zone. The ambient music has something very special to it as everything is very subtle, it’s all melodic and emotionally kind, yet I felt to me as if you would run by quickly you probably wouldn’t be able to hear any of it. Making the music with the high beneficial mellow melodies invisible. Magic music that only will be revealed to true listeners that takes the work seriously and go for it in a one on one session. Kind of romantic isn’t it?

As I lay there on the pillows I noticed that the music took me back to mother earth’s first encounters of discovering the fragile touches of sunlight. Even though my eyes had been closed and the blinds did everything to block daylight out, the music simply started to cover the room with a glorious glow of coziness. It was as if the music had the warm touch of universal love, finally able to roam free into the air with a well willing participant as a receiver. The glow was strong and fragile at the same time, beautiful it was for sure. It made me feel as if Death With Benefits had found the way to add vitamin D to the sounds of music – a vitamin that is essential to feel better and healthier.

Than the music served up more surreal prettiness, carefully camouflaged under the title ‘fuck me with the lights on’. The magic of warm tones that are almost coming out as if they are little clouds that flow in little sporadic rhythmic directions. The music was kind and respectful, as if the skin could be adored with the touches of a soft eroticism, caressing the ears as if it was representing the entire surface of our nakedly exposed bodies. It is a lengthy session so nothing is left unloved or unexplored under the bright tones of light that Death With Benefits had captured over here. But when it got followed up by a session with the lights off you could immediately hear the difference. There was no wondering eyes to see and inspect, but a colder shadowy play that strangely felt a bit more creepier than expected.

You and Me (whatever it means) was the title of the track that followed, one that felt highly emotional, very strong in belief of positivity, like a togetherness that has a dark shadow at its core and positive lights at its upper layer. I could have cried to it as it sounds very honest and exposed, but as I didn’t want to ruin the pillows with salty tears, I just listened to be impressed. After it the album brought more calm surreality, quietly ringing mysterious tones that felt like a wake up call from a distance. They must be the visions of our future’ trying to warm us that when this music session had gone it’s time to face the world of the office again. This might not be the most romantic way to hear this album, so alone on the pillows and candle light. I say this because it’s obvious that this album is best to hear with a partner who you love and loves you equally. But sometimes self love is not a bad thing to go for, besides the music is in a way making love to the ears in this sensible sounding magical way over here. In fact if you love yourself you should try and make the right environment just like I had done & listen to this wonderful album of suggestive music that will only reveals itself to true listeners.
