This is the single from the new Nick Rivera’s album called “Zamalek”. Zamalek is an island in Cairo in the middle of the Nile. But also a neighbourhood, something in between. This album is about the sky you can’t see from this island and the things that swim in it. Zamalek is a warm cuddle from your trusted friend, a fist in the nape from your best enemy.
The label poetically hit the nail on the head with the last part of the above description. ‘The Wasp and the Butcher…and the Bird’ song seduces the unexpected listener in a beautiful warm and cozy world with a lovely sound generated by the friendly guitar strings and sweet vocals. All sounds are full of love, flying butterfly’s and sunshine but like the story of mister Jekyll and Mister Hyde the clear opposite of this all will hit the unexpected listener several times in the face with a fanatic form of fun loving hatred. Shockingly good!
The ‘Coma’ track on this single feels like it is focusing more on the friendly side with its lovely strings, softness and acoustic love. The more nasty side is still present, but feels more integrated between the both of them. The best of both worlds are working together for a perfect ending.
